Individual Counseling

Life can feel overwhelming, messy, or just plain exhausting—and sometimes you need a space that’s just for you.

Individual counseling gives you the chance to slow down, be heard, and work through whatever’s weighing on you in a safe, supportive, and confidential space. Together, we’ll explore what’s going on beneath the surface—your feelings, patterns, past experiences, and the stories you tell yourself—and work toward the change and growth you’re craving.

Whether you're navigating anxiety, relationship stress, old wounds, or big life transitions, therapy is a powerful step toward healing and building a life that feels more grounded, connected, and yours.

Let’s work together to create a life where you love passionately, grow wildly, and live vibrantly.

FAQs

What is a session like?

Starting individual therapy can feel a little intimidating—I get it. It’s not easy to open up to someone new, and it takes courage to take that first step. My goal is to make the process feel as comfortable and straightforward as possible.

We’ll start with a free 15-minute phone consultation so you can share what you’re looking for, ask any questions, and see if we’re a good fit to work together. If it feels like a match, we’ll schedule your first individual counseling session.

Before we meet, I’ll send you a link to my secure client portal where you can fill out all the necessary forms online.

In our first session, we’ll go over the basics, answer any questions you have, and start exploring what brought you to individual counseling. We’ll talk about your goals and how we can work together to get you where you want to be.

From there, sessions are a mix of processing what’s on your heart or mind, learning practical tools to help you cope and grow, and exploring patterns that may be keeping you stuck. My style is conversational, warm, and collaborative—I want you to feel safe, supported, and never judged.

How can individual counseling help me?

Therapy can be a powerful tool for change—whether you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, or just unsure of what to do next.

Individual counseling gives you a space that’s just for you—to process your thoughts and emotions, explore what’s holding you back, and learn tools that actually help. Together, we’ll look at what’s working in your life, what’s not, and how to move toward more clarity, confidence, and connection.

Having an outside perspective (someone who’s not your partner, your friend, or your mom) can help you notice patterns, shift unhelpful beliefs, and make decisions from a place of self-trust. I’ll offer support, gentle honesty, and real strategies for coping, growing, and moving forward.

Whether you’re working through anxiety, relationship challenges, motherhood, old wounds, or something else entirely, therapy can help you feel more like yourself again—and support you in creating a life that feels lighter, healthier, and more aligned with who you truly are.

Do you give homework or reading between sessions?

Sometimes, yes—but only if it feels helpful for you.

I love recommending things like books, articles, journaling prompts, podcasts, or simple practices you can try between sessions to support your growth. That said, if reading or extra “homework” isn’t your thing, no worries at all. Therapy shouldn’t feel like a class—you get to decide what works best for you, and I’ll always meet you where you’re at.

How often should I come to individual counseling?

It really depends on you and what you’re needing right now—but most people find it helpful to start with weekly sessions. Meeting consistently at first helps us build trust, get to know your story, and create momentum for the changes you want to make.

That said, this is your therapy—and we’ll find a rhythm that works for your life, your pace, and your goals. We can always adjust as we go.

Can I do online sessions?

Absolutely! I offer virtual sessions through a secure, easy-to-use platform—perfect if you have a busy schedule, live farther away, or just prefer the comfort of your own space.

Online therapy is just as effective as in-person sessions, and I’m here to make it as seamless and supportive as possible. I also offer in-person sessions in Fort Collins, as well as “walk and talk” therapy if you’d rather get outside while we talk. Whatever works best for you, we’ll make it happen.

How long are appointments?

I offer 45-, 60-, and 90-minute individual sessions, depending on what feels best for you and your needs. We can talk about what makes the most sense during our consultation.

For EMDR or couples therapy, I recommend (and require) either 60 or 90 minutes so we have plenty of time to dive into the work without feeling rushed.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes! What you share in our sessions stays between us. Your privacy and trust are really important to me.

There are a few rare exceptions where I’m required by law to speak up—if there’s a serious risk of harm to you or others, if there’s suspected abuse of a child or elder, or if a court orders me to share information. Even then, I work hard to protect your privacy as much as possible.

If it’s helpful for your therapy, you can also choose to sign a release form that lets me talk with someone you trust—like a doctor or family member.

Do you take insurance?

I’m not contracted with any insurance companies, so I work as an out-of-network provider. This helps me protect your privacy and keep our sessions focused on your needs—not insurance rules.

Many insurance plans do offer some reimbursement for out-of-network therapy. To find out if yours does, just call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask if they cover out-of-network mental health services.

If your plan reimburses, I’m happy to provide you with a detailed receipt (called a superbill) that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
